Wilfredo Gomez
Puerto Rican knockout artist who won titles in three divisions
Overview
Gomez won the WBC super bantamweight title in 1977 and defended it repeatedly, every defense ending inside the distance. His 1981 attempt to take the featherweight title from Salvador Sanchez ended in an eighth round stoppage, the first defeat of his professional career. He later won featherweight and super featherweight titles, and his punching power remains a reference point for the lighter divisions.
