Overview
Before a record crowd of over 100,000 at Soldier Field, Gene Tunney defended the heavyweight title against Jack Dempsey. Tunney was floored in round seven, and Dempsey delayed going to a neutral corner, buying his rival an estimated extra ten seconds to recover. Tunney rose, boxed on, and won a clear decision, closing the Dempsey era for good.
