Max Schmeling studied film, spotted Joe Louis dropping his left after jabbing, and bet on himself heavily at long odds. At Yankee Stadium in June 1936 he hammered the opening and knocked out the unbeaten 22 year old destroyer in 12 rounds, the sensation of the decade and one of the great upsets in heavyweight history.
