Salvador Sanchez
Featherweight champion whose death at 23 cut short an all time great career
Overview
Sanchez took the WBC featherweight title from Danny Lopez in 1980 and defended it nine times, including a beatdown of unbeaten Wilfredo Gomez in 1981 and a win over a young Azumah Nelson. A master of timing and counters, he died in a car crash in Mexico in August 1982 at 23, with a record of 44 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw.
