Barney Ross
Three division champion and a decorated Marine at Guadalcanal
Overview
Ross won the lightweight and junior welterweight titles from Tony Canzoneri in 1933, then fought a celebrated three fight series with Jimmy McLarnin for the welterweight crown in 1934 and 1935. He lost the title to Henry Armstrong in 1938 in his final fight, never having been stopped. Serving with the Marines in World War II, he was awarded the Silver Star for heroism on Guadalcanal.
