Alexis Arguello
The Explosive Thin Man, three division world champion from Nicaragua
Overview
Arguello won titles at featherweight, super featherweight and lightweight, a tall, elegant puncher with a textbook right cross and dignified sportsmanship. He made 8 defenses at 126, then unified at 130 and outboxed Jim Watt for the lightweight crown in 1981. His two savage wars with Aaron Pryor in 1982 and 1983, both losses, are classics. He later became mayor of Managua.
