Born Walker Smith Jr, Robinson went 85-0 as an amateur and ran a 91 fight unbeaten streak as a pro. He won the welterweight title in 1946, took the middle crown in 1951 from Jake LaMotta. He toured Europe as a headliner, launched a business empire, and gave the sport its enduring phrase, pound for pound.
