The Louisville Lip shocked the mob backed champion, Miami Beach 1964
Overview
Cassius Clay, a 7-1 underdog who had screamed predictions for weeks, made good against the fearsome Sonny Liston on February 25 1964. Blistering speed and straight right hands tore Liston face open, and the champion quit on his stool after six rounds with a shoulder injury. The next morning Clay announced his new name, Muhammad Ali, and a new era began.
